Jicin - former noble seat and the gate to the Bohemian Paradise (Cesky Raj).
Jicin was founded in the picturesque landscape of Bohemian Paradise (Cesky raj) as a town mainly built of wood. The famous politician and military leader duke Albrecht of Wallenstein (see also Wallenstein Palace in Prague) decided to make the town a major noble seat.
According to the ambitious project by Italian architects, an Early Baroque chateau, a summer house, a new church and a complex of Jesuits buildings were built from Albrechts initiative. The picturesque square surrounded on all sides by arcades has survived almost complete from 17th. Its dominating feature is Valdicka Gate.
The well-preserved town serves also as a main entrance point to the Bohemian Paradise Region.
