KARLSTEJN - CASTLE - CZECH REPUBLIC
Karlstejn - Castle Castle Karlstejn is one of the most fairy tale castles in the Czech Republic.

Castle was built in 1348 - 1368 by the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV (St.Vitus Cathedral, Charles Bridge), as a place of safe-keeping for reliquaries and the crown jewels. The heart of the castle is Chapel of the Holy Cross. Its walls are coverd by semi-precious sones, gilding and 127 panel paintings of saints from the workshop of Master Theodorik. Panel paintings constitute one of the largest collections of the Gothic panel paintings in the world.
